Frequently asked usage questions - Paper Handling

Return to the index

Q: Why does the printer advance the paper so much when set to roll cutter off?
A: When the roll cutter off setting is selected, the printer advances the paper approximately eight inches in between each image or print job. This leaves enough room to cut between each image using scissors or the optional manual cutter.

Q: What types of paper can I use with the auto-cutter blade?
A: You can use the auto-cutter blade with all EPSON media up to 11.5 mil thick. If the media you are using is thicker than 11.5 mil, it is strongly recommended that you do not use the "Roll Paper (Auto-Cut)" setting to avoid damaging the printer or the cutter blade (which is not covered under your warranty).

Q: Why does the printer fail to cut paper when the Auto Cut setting is selected on the printers control panel?
A: You may not have the auto cut option selected in the EPSON printer driver. Open the driver, click on the Paper tab, and select the auto cut setting if it is available. Also make sure the media type setting is not too thick for the built-in cutter blade. It is recommended that you cut thicker media using scissors or the optional manual cutter. The cutter blade may be dull from extensive use. Follow the instructions in the user manual to replace the cutter blade.

Q: Why am I getting a Reload Paper message?
A: The following can cause Reload Paper messages:
  • The paper may be loaded improperly (too far to the left) or roll paper has been loaded too far down into the printer. Roll paper should be lined up with the vertical and horizontal holes on the lower paper guide.
  • Measure the width of the media to make sure it exactly matches one of the supported paper widths (10", 24", 36", or 44"). A slight size variation (1/8" or 1/4") could cause a Reload Paper error.
  • Verify that there is no printed image or ink on either side of the media that can confuse the optical paper sensor. Try loading a clean sheet of paper.
  • You may also get this message if using non-EPSON media, such as transparencies, velum, etc. Try loading EPSON media instead.
If none of these solutions work, there may be a physical problem with the printer. Please contact technical support at (888) 377-6611 or (562) 276-1305 for assistance.

Q: What are the best settings to use with thicker media?
A: If you are using EPSON media, just make sure you select the correct media type so your printer can set the appropriate Platen Gap setting (if Platen Gap is set to Auto in the SelectType menu).
