Epson Stylus Photo 1270. Here's a close-up of 1270 on the Epson showroom floor. The 1270 prints about 40% faster than the older 1200. Just like the 1200, the 1270 will print on media up to 13 inches wide and as long as 44 inches. The 1270 uses two new ink cartridges, the T007 for black, and the T009 5-color cartridge. Epson representatives claim the ink capacities and prices for the 1270 cartridges are about the same as those for the 1200. The smoked gray translucent cover adds a nice design touch. |

Under the hood of the Epson Stylus Photo 1270. Here's a close-up of what's under the hood of the 1270. You'll notice a slight blur on the cartridges (in the enlarged version), as this printer was busy kicking out samples for people who stopped by the Epson booth. Suggested retail for this printer is $499.00 |

Epson Stylus Photo 870. Here's a close-up of 870 on the Epson showroom floor. The 870 only prints media up to 8.5 inches wide, but at $299.00 suggested retail, it's also $200 less expensethan the 1270. The 870 uses the same black ink cartridge (T007) as the 1270, but it uses a smaller 5-color ink cartridge: the T008. While the 870 is shown here printing with sheet paper, it also comes with a roll paper holder (just like the one shown on the 875DC below). |
 | Epson Stylus Photo 875DC. Here's a close-up of 875DC on the Epson showroom floor. The 875DC is much like the 870, but it sports a built-in digital card reader, which is why it costs $100.00 more than the 870, or $399.00 suggested retail. You'll notice in the enlargement that this printer is printing from 4 inch wide ROLL paper -- more on that in the next picture..... |

 | Roll Paper Holder for both 870 and 875DC. Here's the backside of the 875DC showing the roll paper holder. Both printers include the Epson Digital PhotoLab System which enables you to print continuous edge-to-edge 4" x 6" snapshots on roll paper! |
 | Roll Paper for both 870 and 875DC. Both printers include a roll of Premium Glossy Photo Paper (4 inches x 26 feet) with the purchase of the printer. The prints look and feel like standard color photo lab prints. Each 4 x 6 only takes about 48 second to print. (The owner of a mini-photo lab, standing next to me when I took these pictures, was clearly shaken -- "This could mean the end of my business," he said. The guy next to him said, "I think we'll just buy a couple of these for our lab and advertise that we can now make prints from our customer's digital cameras -- just bring in your compact flash or SmartMedia cards.") |

 | Xtreme Gamut - a NEW Photo-realistic paper and Ink.. This is a revolution in digital inkjet printing. An exciting new product from Charles Berger (of UltraStable fame) is his new "Xtreme Gamut Gloss Xtra White" inkjet media. This product truly looks like the original "Cibachrome" gloss. The new "paper" has a special gelatin inkjet receiving layer on a 7 mil super white polyester base (also available soon in a 9 mil). Matched with this new media are his new "Xtreme Gamut" inks. These new dye-based inks are estimated to last 50 - 55 years with the new matched media (both ink and media have been submitted to Wilhelm for testing). The inks will originally be available in cartridges for the 3000 (only $49.99 each) and 9000 (only $69.99 each) Epson printers. Cartridges for the smaller Epson Stylus Color printers will be available in about 8 - 10 weeks. It is not recommended that the Xtreme Gamut papers be used with any ink but the Xtreme Gamut inkset. |
