SHOULD YOU BUY AN EPSON 7000 OR 7500? BUY A 9000 OR 9500?
With the coming of Epson's new archival pigment inks for the wide-format 7500 and 9500 printers, many are left wondering: Should I buy the wide-format printers for the regular, non-archival Epson dye-based inks (the 7000 or the 9000) and use 3rd party archival inks in them; or should I purchase the "pigment ink printers" (the 7500 or the 9500), which are rumored to only be able to use the new Epson 200-year pigmented inks? Will the new Epson pigment inks be as colorful and wide-gamut as they claim, surpassing what is available now through MIS and Generations inks? Or will I be stuck with a low-gamut printer that has few options?
Many people are ready to make the jump to a wide-format Epson printer now that Epson has come out with the 24-inch wide 7000 printer at a fairly reasonable price of $3,995 (without a rip). The 7500 is available now, but the 7500 will not be available until August (at a price of $4,995 without a rip). While these prices won't "break the bank", this still amounts to a big investment for the artist who may have been using Epson desktop printers, priced at $499 to $1299!
Here's a possible solution for helping make your decision: Purchase an Epson Stylus Photo 2000P ($899) when they become available on July 10th, and find out for yourself if the Epson pigment inks meet your needs. Although this 13" wide printer uses the small-capacity pigment ink cartridges, the $900 investment could save you from a $4 thousand to $5 thousand mistake!

We just receive our first shipment of the Gloss, Satine and Reflection papers. They're going fast, so get yours before they are gone!
XTREME GAMUT "BULK" INKS NOW AVAILABLE FOR BOTH 4 & 6 COLORS
The Xg inks are now available for both 4 and 6 ink printers. We should have our first shipment here by June 16. This means you now can use Xg inks in the popular Continuous Ink System from www.NoMoreCarts.com for virtually any Epson desktop printer! Bulk inks are available in either 4 ounce bottles or half-liter bottles (500 ml or 16.9 ounces). Go to: http://www.inkjetart.com/xtreme/index.html
We will have bulk cleaning solutions available soon, but until then, if you need to flush out an old ink from your current CIS system, just use 3 parts 90-99% isopropyl alcohol and 1 part distilled water. Do not use tap water and don't use the household rubbing alcohol which is only about 70% isopropyl alcohol. 90% to 99% isopropyl alcohol can be obtained at "Longs Drug" and some pharmaceutical supply stores. Our Xg cleaning solution also contains a surfactant or wetting agent. A few drops of Kodak Photo-Flo will suffice and make the cleaning solution work better, but you can get by without a wetting agent if you can't find the Kodak product.
XTREME GAMUT CARTS FOR EPSON 1200 - COMING JUNE 19
Pre-filled Xg ink cartridges for the Epson 1200 are tentatively scheduled to arrive on June 19th.
MITSUBISHI "SEMI-GLOSS" DUAL SIDED PAPER NOW AVAILABLE
There are plenty of glossy and matte papers around these days to choose from, but very few "semi-gloss" papers, and none to our knowledge that are coated on both sides! The Mitsubishi Artist Dual-Sided Semi Gloss is a 48 lb., 9-mil paper with a brightness rating of 93.2. It is engineered for high-resolution printing on both sides, with instant drying. It is great for the graphic designer who wants to emulate fine offset printing stock -- it is the ultimate graphic companion, ideally suited for all high quality design and proofing needs. The "Artist" Dual-Sided Semi Gloss is one of the Mitsubishi Diamond Jet "Artist" Series Inkjet Papers that feature unique water and light resistant properties. The are designed for moderate to heavy ink laydowns. They are ideal for applications such as photographic images, posters, or direct mail.
