Typically, if property for business has a useful life of more than one year, the cost must be spread across several tax years as depreciation with a portion of the cost deducted each year. But there is a way to immediately receive these income tax benefits in one tax year. The provisions of Internal Revenue Code Section 179 allow a sole proprietor, partnership or corporation to fully expense tangible property in the year it is purchased. And tax-law changes have made this option much more appealing by dramatically increasing the amount that can be written off immediately. The inflation-adjusted amount for 2004 taxes is $102,000. Eligible property Property that may be written off in the tax year of purchase, rather than depreciated over the asset's useful life, includes:

Artists can now print on almost anything that they can feed into their inkjet printers with inkAID! The coating on commercially prepared inkjet papers, canvases, films, etc. is designed to control the size of the inkjet dot, to adhere the water-based ink to the substrate, and to speed drying time. Now artists can use inkAID to prepare the material of their choice for inkjet printing. The Epson 2200, 4000, 7600, 9600 and 10600 printers have straight path printing capabilities that allow media up to 1.2mm thick (up to 1.5mm on 7600, 9600 and 10600). The possibilities are only limited by your imagination! InkAID is a remarkable set of precoats in clear gloss, clear semi gloss and white matte, which give artists using inkjet printers a wide range of substrate options. Developed in conjunction with digital artists, InkAID can be used on papers of all kinds, aluminum, acrylic sheets, and wood, for just a few examples. No special equipment is needed, just a spirit of adventure. THREE PRODUCTS (plus an adhesive):
InkAID is made by Ontario Specialty Coatings Corporation. OSPCC supplies coatings for several inkjet media coaters. For several years, we have privately been recommending this company to artists with special projects. InkAID recently changed their packaging to Nalgene bottles, which are very leak-proof when shipping, so we now feel more comfortable to carry this great product in our inventory: http://www.inkjetart.com/inkaid/ IT'S BACK! - PREMIUM DUO BRITE MATTE (Double-sided, Maximum D-Max) Many of you remember this great double-sided photo matte paper. It was one of our best-selling papers because it performed so well (with a high maximum density). It could be printed on both side with the same quality, and it had good archival properties (acid-free and lignin-free), so it was safe to use in long-term book projects. Despite all these great features, it was relatively inexpensive. However, all this ended in August 2003, when the manufacture decided to change the paper's specifications to overcome minor coating flaking problems. The resulting changes left us with a paper that was thinner and did not print as well as the original, so we eventually pulled the product from our line. The manufacturer has finally produced a coating that adheres better to the paper base (so there is less "flaking"), yet it has all the good characteristics of the original paper: http://www.inkjetart.com/photo_papers/duo/premium.html DUO BRITE MATTE "FAMILY": We have three grades of Duo Brite Matte paper. All three give photo quality results on both sides:

In most cases, this is a good thing. But occasionally, one wants to have very shallow depth of focus, in order to emphasize one particular area of the image and draw the attention away from all other areas. You can selectively blur areas after the fact in Photoshop, but the results are different, as well as time-consuming. Photographers have used the tilts and swings on their view cameras for over one hundred years to increase depth of focus (the Schleimpflug principle). In the past few years, illustrative photographers have used special tilt-shift lenses on their SLR cameras to do just the opposite (decrease depth of focus), in order to make their images stand out from the crowd. (Cinematographers were doing this in ads and movies several years before still photographers.) Some of these special lenses often cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Just recently, a novel lens was introduced to mimic these expensive tilt-shift lenses --and do it for under $100! "Lensbabies" will open up a whole new world of creative possibilities for you. Take a look at these two portfolios of Peggy Irelan and Darko Juvan to get an idea of what Lensbabies can do for your images. Lensbabies are available for most 35mm SLR mounts directly from the maker (InkjetART does not sell Lensbabies).
