In our last newsletter we said that independent Blue Wool Scale tests had shown much higher fade resistance for the Epson R200/R300 inks over other Epson dye inks, such as those used in the Epson 1280 and 7000/9000 printers.
A September 20, 2005 update from Wilhelm Imaging Research confirms our findings: In these latest "Lightfast Ratings", check out the column group, "6-Color Photo Dye Inks." The results for the R200/R300/R620 dyed inks are in the middle column of that group, flanked on both sides by the 890/1280 and 7000/9000 series inks.
Wilhelm doesn't test all three dye inks on all the Epson papers, but does do a comparison for the Epson ColorLife Photo Paper and the Epson Matte Paper Heavyweight. Because the ColorLife is a swellable polymer coated paper that protects the ink by encapsulating it, we weren't surprised that the R200/R300 improvement was only only 33% over the 1280 inks (going from 27 years to 36 years). The bigger difference is shown on the unprotected, Matte Paper Heavyweight, where longevity increased 67% over the 1280 inks (going from 18 years to 30 years).
Another high score for the R200/R300 series inks was the results listed for Epson's three "Premium" cut sheet Photo papers, Glossy, Luster and Semigloss. Premium Glossy hit 23 years, and both Premium Luster and Premium Semigloss hit 22 years. Although Wilhelm lists no comparison data for the 890/1280 inks, older (1/30/2000) Wilhelm data (from Inkjetart's archives) show the same 1270/1280 inks had a 9.5 years ("9 - 10 years") rating on the Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper -- which gives the R200/R300 series inks a 142% improvement over the older 1280 series inks!
While 23 years is less than one-half the UltraChrome (pigment) ink's results from the Epson 2200 of 56 years (we'd expect the R2400 to show similar results), this may be quite adequate for those who like the deep, rich colors produced by the Epson dye inks over what the pigment inks can deliver.
We continue to wonder why Epson doesn't introduce the R200/R300 series ink for the very popular 1280 printer. If you don't consider the slight changes from the model 1270 to the model 1280, this printer series and inkset have been going strong since February 2000. Which means that within another five months, the 1270/1280 will have been in production for SIX YEARS! No other printer has ever matched that kind of production run longevity, other than the old Epson Stylus Color 3000! And yes, Inkjetart continues to sell both the 1280 and R320 printers:
Inkjetart offers new, lower pricing incentives on volume purchases of popular Epson inks. (NOTE: there may be some with lower prices than this, but they don't offer free shipping shipping like Inkjetart does!) Please be aware that you need to add the discount coupon to get the combo deals:
2200: Buy any 7 cartridge combination and your price is now $9.95 per cart. Buy any 32 cartridge combination, and your price is now $9.79 per cart. : http://www.inkjetart.com/epson_ink/2200.html
R200/R300: Buy any 6 cartridge combination and your price is now $11.55 per cartridge (with the exception of the black ink cartridge, which is $16.30). http://www.inkjetart.com/epson_ink/R300.html
PRO EPSON INKS: Because of Epson's "Minimum Advertised Price" (MAP) restrictions, we are not allowed to advertise our Pro ink prices. (Epson Pro inks can be sold at a lower price, they just cannot be advertised below MAP. If you see a product advertised below MAP, there is something fishy going on.) Despite these MAP restrictions, you can easily find out Inkjetart's price just by clicking on "Buy One" and place it into your shopping cart (you can always remove it, if you don't like our price). Adding the "7-Cartridge Discount" will give you an even more significant discount:
In an another effort to improve our customer service, Inkjetart has extended the cut-off, for same-day shipping of online orders, from Noon to 2:00 pm. This extends the period you can place orders another two hours, and still expect your order to be shipped that same day. Here's how this equates to your time zone:
Place your order online no later than (for same-day shipping):
Several of our customers have written to tell us that two other companies are marketing and selling gold CD-R's: Light Impressions and Delkin. Actually, Light Impressions is just reselling Delkin's "eFilm" trademark brand of "Archival Gold" CD-R's. This brand claims to be...
"The 300 Year Disc"
"The most reliable CD-R on the planet"
made with 24k gold, that "stops CD rot"
made with "Patented Phthalocyanine dye" that makes "stored data easier to read"
Does this sound similar to the claims we've made for years about our Mitsui/MAM-A Gold Standard CD-R's? Mitsui/MAM-A, in Colorado Springs, is THE company that owns the patent on Phthalocyanine dye, and the only company to make a real 24k gold CD-R. Unlike other companies, Inkjetart buys our Mitsui/MAM-A Gold Standard CD-R's un-branded, without a any logos or branding. We do this for several reasons:
So you know you have the original Mitsui/MAM-A Gold Standard
You have a clean un-branded surface, to place your own info on the discs
Un-branded discs reduce our costs, and we pass the savings on to you
Our Mitsui/MAM-A Gold Standard CD-R's also offer these ADVANTAGES:
Our's store 700mb of data - they've opted for the 650mb capacity
Our's come in plain, shiny gold surface or with a white, inkjet printable surface - theirs come with only the shiny branded (their logo) surface
Our's come with a jewel case for each CD-R - theirs come only in bulk
Their 25-pack spindle is $36.99 (Delkin) to $39.99 (Light Impressions) Our un-branded Mitsui/MAM-A Gold Standard CD-R's (in individual jewel cases) are $34.75 for 25.
Their (Delkin) 100-Disc Spindle is $139.99 -- Our un-branded Mitsui/MAM-A Gold for 100; and we offer free shipping!
EVEN GREATER CD-R SAVINGS? We could offer you even greater savings if we offered our Mitsui/MAM-A Gold Standard CD-R's in spindle and bulk packs like Delkin and Light Impressions.
