REPEATABLE PRINTER FILES (USING THE "PRINT TO FILE" FEATURE)
Wouldn't it be great if you could save all your Epson printer driver settings for resolution, quality, color, saturation, contrast, profile, etc. along with each image file --once you find out what works best for that image? You can! You can even share these files with someone who has your same printer model, even if they don't have the application software that you were using, i.e. Photoshop. (This is a great feature for artists who are worried about copyright issues, because the only thing the receiver can do with these special files is print them -- they cannot be edited for any other use.) Chris Bair, who is over IT and technical support here at InkjetART, will show you how to do all this. These special files are called, "saved spool files", or ".prn" files (on the Windows side):
We've just added two new micro-porous glossy inkjet papers and an updated, old favorite of Epson's to our Web site that provide great quality a very low prices -- as low as 25 cents per letter-size sheet! You'll save like crazy:
CANON EOS-10D & EOS-1Ds CAMERAS AVAILABLE AT InkjetART
Just a reminder that Canon EOS-10D and Canon EOS-1Ds cameras are available through InkjetART. Why not go with a dealer you trust? We can only advertise the $1495 price for the 10D, and $7999 for the 1Ds, but call us, and let's make a deal (800-777-2076):
"PARTIAL ECLIPSE": LIMITED SUPPLIES OF BRIGHTCUBE ECLIPSE PAPER
Although Brightcube's popular, double-sided Eclipse paper was discontinued almost a year ago, we've been able to procure additional supplies of this bright white "Satine" paper in the 190 g/m2 or 300 g/m2 weight. We currently have only the 8.5" x 11" in these two weights, and the 11" x 17" in the 190 g/m2 (300 g/m2 to be available within one week). 13" x 19" is no longer available in the 190 g/m2, but will be available in the 300 g/m2 weight in about one week. We can also special order (from our distributor warehouse) 24", 36" and 44" rolls:
With supplies of the Eclipse nearly gone, many have looked for other dual-sided, 100% cotton rag papers. Hahnemuhle's Photo Rag Duo is a good choice, but it is too expensive for some.
Museum Digital Art has similar printing qualities to both the Photo Rag, and the Eclipse, but is closer in price to the Eclipse.
Some people feel the Museum Digital Art's "natural white" base does not give them the brightness they seek. However, it is important to realize that the optical brighteners found in Photo Rag and the Eclipse Bright White Satine can break down and change color over time (yellow), which is why Museum Digital Art has no brighteners or chlorine.
About these potential problems, Wilhelm Imaging Research says, "Prints stored in the dark may suffer slow deterioration that is manifested in yellowing of the print paper, image fading, changes in color balance, and physical embrittlement, cracking, and/or delamination of the image layer. These types of deterioration may affect the paper support, the image layer, or both. Each type of print material (ink/paper combination) has its own intrinsic dark storage stability characteristics; some are far more stable than others. Rates of deterioration are influenced by temperature and relative humidity; high temperatures and/or high relative humidity exacerbate the problems."
BILL ATKINSON PROFILE AVAILABLE FOR EPSON ULTRA SMOOTH
Epson's UltraSmooth Fine Art paper has yet to be released to the general public, however, Bill Atkinson has been beta testing this paper, and has produced an ICC profile, for use in 9600 UltraChrome printers (the same profile will also work for 7600 UltraChrome users --we're not sure if it will work for Epson 2200 users, but you can try).
The reason we're mentioning Bill's Epson UltraSmooth profile is because it will also work well with our MUSEUM DIGITAL ART paper, as the papers are so very, very much alike. This profile can be downloaded at:
...this takes you to the Bill Atkinson Public Files page. Click on the "Epson 9600 Profiles". Upon reaching that page, scroll to the bottom and select the "Ultra Smooth Fine Art v1.sit". If this is your first time using one of Bill's profiles, be sure to also download the "About Bill's Profiles May7.pdf". The ".sit" files need to be uncompressed with Stuffit Expander (you can get if from http://www.aladdinsys.com/) before they can be used.
You can also continue to use the Epson "Enhanced Matte" built-in printer driver profile for our MUSEUM DIGITAL ART paper, if you don't want to download and install this new ICC profile.
THICKER "MUSEUM" VERSION COMING SOON. In a few of weeks we plan to announce the release of the 250 g/m2 roll version (coated on one side) of our Museum Digital Art Paper. Our 325 g/m2 and 500 g/m2 versions are being delayed due to package design and engineering difficulties (like how to protect large sheets from 800-pound gorillas during the shipping process).

WARNING: YOU MAY WANT TO EXTEND YOUR EPSON 7600/9600 SERVICE CONTRACT
The Epson 7600 and 9600 slowly began to appear on the market last summer, and some of you are coming up on the anniversary of your purchase. We just wanted to remind you that your Epson Preferred Plus Service ("warranty") on your Epson 7600 or 9600 printer expires after one year. Your first year of Preferred Plus Service came with your printer purchase. This service is performed on your site if you need it (with the technician usually arriving within 24 hours of your call). Most people don't need to take advantage of their Preferred Plus Service during the first year, so they see little need of renewing it for another year (cost is normally $725.00 for one year, or $1305 for two years; but our price is only $665.00 for one year and $1239 for two years).
Our Bair Art Editions division owns two Epson 9600 printers and two 7600 printers. Only one of these printers has ever needed service, but it has been serviced twice. Without Epson's Preferred Plus Service, DecisionOne, who performs the service for Epson, would probably have charged us well over $1,900. In fact, the average on-site service call lasts about 3.5 hours and costs Epson about $800 in parts and labor.
Unlike the electronics and appliance retail dealers who often make more money on the "service contracts" they sell, Epson dealers make relatively little money on the service contracts we sell, so we don't push these contracts at the time of the sale. Because the Epson Preferred Plus Service is performed on your location, it is very costly to Epson, when compared to most other service contracts that require you to bring the item to the service center for service (which is very difficult when you have a printer as large as a 7600 or 9600)! Epson Preferred Plus Service is a professional service that is preformed quickly (usually within 24 to 48 hours of your call), rather than a drop-off service where you wait your turn at the service center.
You may be one of the lucky ones that never need service on your printer. If your printer is just for your personal work, you may want to just take your chances. If you use your printer in your business, we would strongly suggest you consider extending your Preferred Plus Service for at least another year, and just think of its cost ($665 for one year, or $1239 for two years) as part of your total per print costs.
If you want to extend your Preferred Plus Service, go online and order, or call us (1-800-777-2076). You must do this BEFORE your current coverage expires:
