Hahnemuhle Photo Rag (in both 188 g/m2 and 308 g/m2) is one of our most popular inkjet fine art papers. We've always offered very competitive pricing for this paper, especially when one considers that we also provide free ground shipping for orders over $99. Although the sheets are more economical to buy in the 50-sheet packages, many of our customers still prefer to buy the Photo Rag in the 20-sheet packages because larger formats, like 13x19 and 17x22, can be a substantial investment when one has to by a 50-sheet box.
But now, for a limited time, you can now buy the 20-sheet packages at 20% off our regular price. (You'll be paying basically the same cost per sheet as when you buy the 50-sheet packages, but without having to make the larger investment in inventory!)
If you've never printed on Photo Rag, now is a good time to try it, with the 20% off sale on the 20-sheet packages. NOTE: This sale only applies to the 188 g/m2 and 308 g/m2 Photo Rag, and may end on February 15, 2006:
Now you can print on virtually any surface and add luminance at the same time with new inkAID Iridescent Precoats in Gold, Silver, Pearl, Red and Blue. Premixed with glowing tints, these one-step precoats contain both an adhesive and precoat for inkjet printing and will adhere to virtually every surface including non-porous surfaces like metal and porous surfaces like wood, leather or paper.
We've also introduced another new inkAID product, the Clear Gloss Type II. This product comes with an adhesive built in, and was developed so that you no longer need a separate adhesive coating when preparing non-absorbent surfaces like aluminum and Plexiglas. NOTE: inkAID also carries a separate "Adhesive" when you want to use their White Matte Precoat and Semi Gloss Precoat on other non-absorbent surfaces, and it is not necessary for the full pattern or color of the substrate to show through. (When you want more of the color and pattern of the substrate to show through the precoating, you need to use the new one-step Clear Gloss Type II, or use the inkAID Adhesive, followed by their original Clear Gloss Precoat.)
SAMPLE KIT: If you're new to inkAID products, you may wish to try their new sample kit to help you get started with their products. We highly recommend it, because it will let you sample all of their precoatings, plus one of their Iridescent (the gold) gloss precoats. The sample kit is very economically priced, and includes a 4 ounce bottle of each of the following (for only $24):
InkAID White Matte Precoat
InkAID Clear Gloss Precoat
InkAID Clear Semi Gloss Precoat
InkAID Adhesive Precoat
InkAID Clear Gloss Precoat Type II (with adhesive)
ORIGINAL QUESTION: "I am trying to use the Epson Canvas to print some photographs. I located the profile - SP4800 PAWRC PK 1440. Now how do I get the paper to show up in my media/paper type pull down menu?"
ANSWER (written by Chris Bair): Many people get confused on how profiles work with the paper settings that Epson has included in the driver. The different paper types that you see in the drop down menu only changes if Epson updates the driver to include more paper types (which has only happened with the ColorLife paper to our knowledge) or when you switch from matte to photo black or vice versa (which isn't adding more types, just removing the gloss and luster ones when you have the matte black installed).
When using or making a profile you use one of the existing paper settings. For example: let's say you are using the Inkjetart Illuminata Artist Canvas, it works best with matte black inks and the Epson Enhanced Matte paper setting so if you are going to make a profile you would select that paper setting when making the profile and then select it again when using it you can even select that and not use a profile and still get good results. Same thing goes for the Inkjetart Micro Ceramic Luster: it works best with the Epson Premium Luster setting but on some printers you don't have that selection available so you use the next best thing (Epson Premium Glossy) or you may be using a Pro printer that has the "Epson Premium Luster (250)" setting available which is essentially an exact match for the Micro Ceramic Luster.
When you're using a generic profile that you get from Epson, or another source, they generally come with instructions on the printer settings to use. In the case of the Epson profiles the instructions are on a sheet that comes with the package of paper (and most people just throw away without looking at it). For other manufacturers they generally have the settings to use on the web or included with the profile download. The important thing when using a profile is to always have the exact same settings when using it as it was created with. If you have gone through the videos for our Custom Profile service you'll note that when printing the targets we have you save the printer settings so when you get the profile and use it, you can just re-select the saved settings and not have to remember them.
So to reiterate: the list of papers in the driver is not going to change. Getting a profile for a particular paper is not going to add that new paper type. I had a person ask a similar question after affirming that "yes, [they] had read the profile instruction Epson offers" - I informed them that their question indicated that they needed to read and understand it. It's actually a very common assumption to make when you have never used profiles before so if you have that question: don't worry that the world thinks you're dumb - you just need some more research and you'll be a profile user too. Once you grasp the concept of using them you'll be amazed at how simple it is and how great the results are.

InkjetART carries a wide variety of photo grade gloss and luster inkjet papers, but by far our two most popular brands are the Epson "Premium" and the InkjetART "Micro Ceramic". Both brands are micro-porous technology papers, which produce instant ink drying, improved image sharpness and color intensity. Both brands have a polyethylene moisture barrier layer ("RC" technology) to prevent paper cockling under heavy ink loads. Both brands have virtually identical color management profiles, which means that the Micro Ceramic papers have been manufactured to match their respective Epson papers in almost every detail. BUT THERE ARE SOME EXCEPTIONS:
SHEET STOCK for DYE ink users: The sheet version of Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper is manufactured to work well with BOTH dye ink (i.e. Epson Stylus Photo R300 series and 1280) and pigmented inks (like the UltraChrome), whereas the Pro Graphics ("250" roll) version of this same paper is optimized for just the pigmented inks, like the UltraChrome. Our standard Micro Ceramic Gloss shares the same characteristics as the Epson Pro Graphics ("250" roll) version -- which means that dye ink users will have a slight advantage with the Epson Premium Glossy Photo sheet stock over the InkjetART Micro Ceramic Gloss sheet stock.
This same dye/pigment optimization characteristic applies to the Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper -- which means that dye ink users will have a slight advantage with the Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper sheet stock over the InkjetART Micro Ceramic Luster sheet stock.

Beginning today, we have discounted our popular InkjetART Micro Ceramic Gloss (250 gsm, 10.2 mil) and our popular popular InkjetART Micro Ceramic Luster (250 gsm, 10.4 mil) to a sale price that is 20% off our normal price (20% off the examples we've given, above). This sale may end on February 15, 2006:
We have brought back our popular Illuminata Artist Canvas. Many of our customers liked this canvas because of it's natural texture and real canvas look (many inkjet canvas products are so smooth and uniform, they don't even look like canvas). Illuminata Artist Canvas has been the most popular canvas at BairArtEditions.com.
When this canvas became unavailable two months ago, many of InkjetART's customers (including BairArtEditions.com) were in a panic, because they had invested considerable time and money setting up many images files for this canvas, and had many repeat customers that preferred this canvas.
In order to insure that InkjetART would have a more consistent, stable and long-term supply of this canvas it was necessary for us to go with a new manufacturer (using the same canvas stock, and licensing the same coating formula). Although this dependability and consistency has increased the cost of the Illuminata Artist Canvas, we now hope to insure its availability for a long time.
The wait is over! These printers have been in short supply ever since their introduction last Fall. InkjetART has several 9800 in stock, and an even better supply of 7800's (along with $500 mail-in rebates from Epson -- see below). Let our salespeople give you a quote. Your editor has spent many years in a photographic darkroom, and although I loved to watch the magic of a latent silver-halide image come to life in a print processing tray -- I'll never go back to the wet process. Digital is a lot more fun: you get to do it the light, and not while standing under the weak glow of those orange safelights!
However, I've noticed that those who have had those years of wet-process training usually handle inkjet papers the same way they handled photographic papers -- by the edges, or with gloves. They knew that the oils, acids and salts from their hands would leave marks on the final processed print that would degrade the photographic image. This same thing can happen with coating of inkjet papers.
But the same care needs to also take place AFTER you've made your inkjet prints. Why be concerned about how many years of "archival" longevity that your UltraChrome ink and high-quality, acid-free or OBA-free fine art paper combination will give you, if you indiscriminately handle your prints? Handle your papers and final prints only by the edges, or even better yet, use photo-lab quality gloves over your hands. It's much easier to do a lot of post-production trimming and curation with gloves to protect your valuable prints.
The Polygenex company, that supplied our gloves, went out of business last year. We were able to find a supply of these gloves, and a manufacturer that will make them to the same specifications. You can find these gloves at this Web address:
One final note to some who are concerned about buying over the Internet: InkjetART.com's original parent company has been selling over the Internet since 1994. Inkjetart.com was registered in April 1999. We are also a real "brick and mortar" company, with employees who care about our customers.
