Custom ICC and ICM Printer Profiles

$25.00 each

Custom profiles are as easy as selecting the right targets. If you are using any type of photo paper use the Thin Targets. If you are using thick art papers or some of the new fiber based like the Epson Exhibition Fiber Paper or the Ilford Fibre Gold Silk you will want to use the Thick Targets. The thick targets also apply to canvas or vinyls.

When printing off the targets some key things you will want to remember is make sure color management is turned off in both the printer driver and Photoshop, also make sure when you print off the targets that "Borderless" is not checked, and lastly you will want to double check there is NO BANDING (vertical or horizontal lines in the print, not the paper) in the targets. Make note of the settings you use in your printer driver and in Photoshop, this will determine how you will print in the future. Profiles are not intended to solve all color issues. They match the paper with ink and printer to a color standard. This does not affect saturation or density of color and black.

Please include payment by check when mailing the profiles or pay ahead of time (click to place an "order"). When the profile is ready we will send it to you as an email attachment. Sometimes the profiles end up in the spam or junk mailbox. This is due to the file being a zip file and not being allowed with your email server. When we send out the profiles we will send you 2 emails. The 1st email will let you know we have sent the profile to you and if you do not see it check your spam or junk mailbox. The 2nd email will have the profile attached to it. We usually get the profile emailed to you within 24 hours of receiving the targets.

Targets (make sure you get the right one):

Please select the type of paper you are using from the tabs above. Most glossy, luster and photo matte/flat papers will use the "14mil or thinner" files. Thick media, art paper, canvas or cloth uses the "Thick art paper/canvas/cloth" set. If you have doubts about which one to use, you can contact us or go with the "thick" set.

Written Instructions:

Please select the program you are using from the tabs above.

I have tried out my new profiles for my new Epson 4800, and just wanted to thank you. This printer has much better gamut than my 1280. It's amazing considering pigment inks were not supposed to have as much color range as dye inks!

Your profiles hit the bullseye. I have never had results as good as this. I am a happy customer. The Epson provided profiles were lousy. Thanks again and keep up the great work. It was worth waiting for... Take care, K. Lambson
Wow!!! Thank you! I've been fighting with skin tones since I started inkjet printing in 2003. I've tried a number of "canned" profiles and tweaks including the Epson profiles of course. The profile you made produces very accurate color skin tones that match my calibrated monitor very well. Your profile is indescribably better than the Epson profile. I've been debating whether to spend the money for a spectrophotometer (eye1) or to pay for profiles. I definitely won't hesitate to buy profiles for my other papers and printers now. Thanks!
Best Regards, S. McClain
Your profile WORKS LIKE A CHAMP!!! ...right out of the box! I just printed a trial picture, and the color balance is perfect. I put the canvas print made with your profile next to one made on Enhanced Matte with the Epson EM_MK profile, and they match perfectly. A far cry better than the profile Epson provides for the canvas... I'll be back for more.

Likely to be Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How can I make certain I used the right printer settings?

A: The most common mix up is forgetting to use the "No Color Adjustment" mode in the printer driver. The easiest way to tell if you did it correctly is to look at the inkjetart.com logo:
Correct
NCA.jpg
Wrong
automatic.jpg
This is roughly what it looks like if you do it right, the cyan looks blue, the magenta is more red and overall it's darker This is roughly what it looks like if you do it wrong, the printer is trying to match how the colors look on screen which is not what we want when making a profile

Make sure the logo on BOTH targets looks the same, often people do it right on the first print and forget to set it on the second

Q: Why is there a "Thick" version of the targets, what's the difference?

A: We use the Xrite DTP70 with monacoPROFILER to create the majority of the profiles we send out, the problem is the DTP70 only allows 14 mil paper to be loaded. For thicker media we have to use the Gretag Macbeth Eye-One with monacoPROFILER. The Eye-One operates differently so it needs different targets. If you print the normal targets (the ones for the DTP70) on a thick paper like canvas (most canvases are > 20 mil) you can expect an email or call telling you to print the thick targets and send it again.

Q: hey wait a second, you're doing CMYK profiles now? Where are the targets for that?

A: Yes. I'm not going to put up a link to those targets, though, because people would try to use them instead of the RBG ones for their RGB printers (unless you're using a RIP, all Epson, Lexmark, most Canon and most HP printers are RGB, not CMYK - meaning they operate in the RGB color space not CMYK despite the fact that they use CMYK ink). If you want to have us do a profile for a CMYK printer, please contact us and tell us how thick your paper is so we can send you the right targets to print.

Q: What happens if the profile doesn't work?

A: Contact me and we'll get it worked out. We'll make sure you get taken care of.

Q: Can you do a profile for my Canon/HP/Lexmark/any other printer?

A: Yep.

Q: Can you make a profile for Epson 2100 (2200), Epson original inks and Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper?

A: Yep - any Ink, pretty much any inkjet or Dye-Sub printer not using a RIP and any reflective media (can't do transparency film, sorry).

Q: For the profiling, if I always use Lyson Print Guard [or another spray], should I spray the samples before I send them?

A: Actually, yes - but before you do spray them, make sure you let the prints dry completely - usually 24-48 hours and then let them dry again after spraying before you send them to us.

Q: It appears I cannot rename the profiles. Even though I renamed them before I "installed" them (XP system) the name comes up as the name you gave them. Their names in the icc profile directory are the names I gave them but still Photoshop has them listed as the names you gave them.

A: Profiles have a name stored inside them that is what shows up in Photoshop. Even if you rename the profile "1234.icc" it will still use the original name from inside. There's a utility on http://www.tlbtlb.com/links/ that can be used to rename profiles.

Q: On the old page you had instructions from Epson on using profiles, can I still get that?

A: It's here: http://prographics.epson.com/downloads/icc/How-to-Use-ICC-Profiles.pdf

Q: I have a profile I copied over from my PC that isn't working on my Mac because it doesn't have the right Icon can you help?

A: I actually make our profiles on a PC and then run them through a utility on the Mac before sending them out, it changes the type and creator codes (gives it the right icon) so it will work on the Mac. Here's a link if anyone needs it.
