NOTE (The following information is taken from Ilford publication TDS 555EN, 07/2001): Ilford Galerie Smooth (Gloss & Pearl) Paper - like all unprotected nonoporous "instant dry" media - is sensitive to environmental pollutants, an effect often referred to a 'gas fading'. "Gas fading" occurs with and without the addition of exposure to light. Environmental humidity and air circulation play an important role in the "gas fading" issure. In a protected display, laminated or under glass, indoors and away from direct sunlight, life expectancy of up to 10 year can be expected depending on the ink involved.

To achive this type of media unprotected they should be stored in files and not open to well ventilated environments. In ventilated environments even in the dark "gas fading" can still occur.

The life expectancy of all inkjet media is influenced by humidity, light and the ink being used. At higher levels or humidity, one should expect a shorter life expectancy than at low light level or humidity. Some inkjet printer inks also offer poor stability when compared with others. When storing and handling prints at the extremes of the environmental range (<10% r.h. and >70%) performance and permanence may be reduced.

Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss Lite (IGSGP7) SLIGHTLY THINNER: 10.4 mil (250 g/m2). Only slightly less thick (4% less) than Ilford's regular Galerie Smooth Gloss (IGSGP9) that has a 10.8 mil thickness, and a weight of 280 g/m2*. This paper performs every bit as good as the very popular Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, but at 1/2 the cost! In fact, when using pigment ink (like the Epson 2200 printer), both Ilford Smooth Gloss papers showed much less gloss-differential (or "bronzing") than the Epson paper.
