The Epson Stylus Pro 9900 does not replace the existing 44 inch professional Epson Stylus Pro 9880. The 9880 will continue as part of the Epson professional printer line and has been the proven leader in extremely high quality photo, fine art and proof printing, until now. Introducing the Epson Stylus Pro 9900, designed for those that are uncompromising in achieving the ultimate in quality and accuracy in their work; and those who value and can take advantage of significant improvements in productivity.

Representing the next generation of Epson's professional 44 inch width printer, the Epson Stylus Pro 9900 incorporates the latest achievements in photographic ink jet technology. By combining the precision of MicroPiezo TFP™ print head with the extraordinary performance of Epson UltraChrome^® HDR (high dynamic range) Ink, Epson's newest generation of Epson Stylus Pro printers continue to represent a level of technology unprecedented in inkjet printing history.

Epson UltraChrome HDR represents the latest generation of pigment ink technology. Not only has Epson included Matte Black and Photo Black in the Epson Stylus Pro 9900 but it uses a total of 10 ten inks including all-new Orange and Green Ultrachrome inks. Epson UltraChrome HDR Inks produce the widest color gamut ever from an Epson professional printer.

The Epson Stylus Pro 9900 features a new AccuPhoto™ screening technology for finer photographic reproduction and smoother tonal gradations. The new MicroPiezo TFP print head is capable of producing higher quality prints, at speeds almost twice as fast as the 9880. The new printhead also features the latest ink-repelling coating and auto nozzle verification technologies which are reported by Epson to virtually eliminate clogged nozzels.

The Stylus Pro 9880 44 inch professional printer will continue to be offered as part of the Epson Line but for those that want the ultimate in color gamut, tonal range, image perfection and productivity; the Epson Stylus Pro 9900 will be the printer of choice.

With both Photo and Matte Black ink cartridges installed simultaneously, the Epson Stylus Pro 900 series printers automatically utilize the optimal black ink mode, delivering maximum black density for the chosen media. Taking advantage of the Epson MicroPiezo TFP auto-sharing black ink channel ensures a fast and efficient switch. And to further reduce switching errors, the user confirms the switching process from the front control panel.

The standard Photo Black ink mode can be used for any media type with professional results. However, for certain Epson media types such as Velvet Fine Art, Enhanced Matte, and UltraSmooth Fine Art, using the optional Matte Black ink mode instead, will dramatically increase your black optical density for even better print quality.
