What is the longevity of prints for photos printed with EPSON UltraChromeTM Ink?
The EPSON® Stylus® Photo 2200 uses 7-color pigment inks that retain the advantages of high resistance to fading from water, light, and air contaminants, and that are capable of producing the largest and most vibrant color range for pigment inks. The addition of a new lower density black ink-Light Black-helps produce more neutral grays for stunning black and white photographs.

As with traditional photos, proper care will maximize display life. For indoor display, Epson recommends prints be framed under glass or in a protective plastic sleeve to protect them from atmospheric contaminants like humidity, cigarette smoke, and high levels of ozone. And, as with all photographs, the prints should be kept out of direct sunlight. For proper storage, Epson recommends prints be stored in a photo album (or plastic photo storage box) in acid-free, archival sleeves commonly available from most camera shops and other retailers. By taking these steps to protect prints from direct sunlight and contaminants, you can preserve your photos for many years.
Notable Quotes
"The phrase light black might seem like an oxymoron, but in the case of the EPSON Stylus Photo 2200, it makes perfect sense. The unit's enhanced seven-color UltraChrome pigment-ink set and increased maximum resolution of 2880 x 1440 combine to deliver some of the best archival-quality ink jet output we've ever seen. The Epson is also very expensive, but the Stylus Photo 2200 is well worth the price for photography professionals who demand high-quality prints that will last." (ZDNet Review, August 7, 2002)
1 Lightfastness ratings are based on accelerated testing of prints on specialty media displayed indoors, under glass. Actual print stability will vary according to media, printed image, display conditions, light intensity and atmospheric conditions. Lightfastness ratings do not measure paper deterioration, such as yellowing. Epson does not guarantee the longevity of prints. For maximum print life display all prints under glass or lamination or properly store them. Ratings based on tests conducted by Epson and Wilhelm Imaging Research www.wilhelm-research.com.
2 Though these inks resist fading from light in framed display condition for over 60 years, Enhanced Matte Paper shows yellowing after 30 years in accelerated dark storage testing.
